There’s nothing like fresh coffee, and Maui has some of the freshest out there. FUN FACT: Hawaii is the only place in the United States that grows coffee for general consumption!

For those of us living in or around Kihei, we’re lucky to have a lineup of spots where the coffee is as rich in flavor as our island’s history. Here’s the scoop on where to grab your next cup of java, where the coffee game is strong and the local spirit even stronger.

Akamai Coffee Co.

Located in Kihei Plaza, Akamai Coffee is locally grown, locally roasted, and 100% Maui. They offer coffee varietals, including Maui Mokka, which won the award for Best Coffee in the State of Hawaii in 2014. Their roasters know how important roasting is for getting a quality taste in each cup, so they have worked diligently to perfect their process. You can order online and pick up your coffee in as little as 10 minutes. Along with the location in Kihei, they also have shops in Wailea Village and Kahului.

Hawaiian Moons Natural Foods

We know what you’re thinking, “A grocery store?” But if you haven’t ever tried the coffee in their little café, you’re missing out. Hawaiian Moons Natural Foods’ goal is to promote good fitness, healthy food, and a sustainable lifestyle. They subscribe to these ideals through organic farming, energy efficiency, recycling, and environmentally friendly products. You just know you’re getting quality when you shop here. Along with coffee, they sell juices, smoothies, sandwiches, burgers, acai bowls, and more.

Kraken Coffee

Release your inner kraken. Kraken Coffee is the most famous drive-thru coffee in Maui, with two locations in Kihei — one at the Kihei Marketplace and the other off Piikea Avenue near Azeka. At Kraken Coffee, they’re all about excitement, creativity, and fun. It’s that same creativity that led them to make ice cubes out of their coffee. That’s right! For all of the cold brew fans out there, you no longer have to deal with watered-down coffee — they’ve got coffee ice cubes!

Lava Java Coffee Roasters of Maui

For a top-tier Maui coffee experience, Lava Java in Kihei Kalama Village has you covered. Alongside their premium Maui-grown selections, they offer some of the finest Colombian coffees. It’s also a great place to find unique teas, gifts, and local reads.

Da Green Coffee Bar

At South Maui Gardens, among the foliage, you’ll find Da Green Coffee Bar, locally owned by husband and wife, Keith and Alison. True to its name, the coffee bar is housed in a bright green building in a one-of-a-kind natural setting. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but you may just want to park yourself outside at one of the picnic tables, sip your coffee, and stay forever. The surrounding scenery provides the perfect environment to relax and unwind. Da Green Coffee Bar grinds its coffee beans right on site, and provides a variety of options. LOCAL’S TIP: They also have a toast menu!

Maui Makai

Maui Makai is your go-to place for all things quality, culture and consciousness. Since talking story is the aloha language, we pay tribute to the best stuff around by covering the people, places and things that make this island so special. Consider us your online ohana with the scoop on all the latest and greatest.
