Sal e Pepe has this quality that's rare on Maui — you walk in and you feel like you've been transported. Intimate, warm, genuinely romantic in the way that doesn't feel forced. Italian done with real care, a wine list worth exploring, and the kind of room where the conversation just flows easier somehow.

The Birdcage is technically a hotel restaurant — at the No. 1 hotel in Hawaiʻi per Travel + Leisure 2026, no less — but it doesn't feel like one. It feels like an open-air garden with the best sunset views in South Maui, Japanese-inspired small plates, handrolls worth talking about, and cocktails that are genuinely the best in the area. Wagyu and ahi rolls. Charcuterie. Bold, smoky Binchotan-grilled flavors. Adults-only property, which sets a tone.
Come for drinks and apps before dinner somewhere else — or stay longer than planned because you can't bring yourself to leave. Both are completely valid outcomes.
