Isa Inca: Maui’s Queen of Movement & Sensuality
The first time I walked into Isa Inca’s Saturday bellydance class at Powerhouse Gym in Kīhei, I wasn’t looking for a workout. I had just gone through a breakup, and something in me was craving reconnection. Reclamation. I wanted to return to my body, my softness, my sensuality… not for anyone else, but for me.
I didn’t know it then, but I was walking into the care of a woman who has been practicing, performing, and teaching movement for more than three decades. Isa is one of Maui’s most beloved dancers, a performer who is rooted in ancient lineage yet fully alive in modern, island culture.
Somewhere between the figure-eights, shimmies, and hip circles, my chest expanded, my breath deepened, my hips loosened. And by the end, during that slow, stretchy cool-down, I had a full emotional release. Tears of relief, truth and presence.
They say the hips store emotion.
Move them, and you move what’s been stuck.
Shake them, and you shake something awake.
Isa gives you permission to feel it all.
Who Is Isa Inca?
Long before she was lighting up Maui’s stages, Isa was a young artist in Stockholm, Sweden, with a lifetime’s worth of training packed into her early years.
She has:
25 years of dance training
Began performing, teaching, and choreographing at 13
Studied Modern, Jazz, and Ballet at Stockholm’s Aesthetic Performing Arts School
Trained in Hip Hop, Bellydance, Bollywood, African, Hula, Tap, Salsa, Swing, and Zumba
Studied under world-renowned dance icons including Yanis Marshall, Ailey II, Zoe Jakes, Sabrina Fox, Sadie, Ansuya, and more
Completed a 6-month Pilates certification
Studied numerous styles of yoga
Her experience is global, but her artistry is unmistakably her own: fierce, feminine, culturally fluent, and visually striking.
She was a longtime dancer in Maui’s #1 Elvis show, Burn’n Love, and starred in major events like the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Art=Mixx.
She performed in the Throwdowns’ international music video “Shake Your Bones,” taught at Horizon’s Academy, and even ran her own dance studio for six years.
Today, she is the resident bellydancer at Le Bazaar Moroccan Restaurant in Kīhei, performing six nights a week, mesmerizing diners with a fusion of Middle Eastern dance, modern movement, and her own signature fire.
Her Performance at the Maui Makai Holiday Pop-Up
When Isa performed at our Holiday Pop-Up Market on November 30, she turned the graffiti-covered Maui Mood Swing courtyard into a full-body experience.
She danced with power, grace, and play, and then led a bellydance mini-class that had everyone moving. Moms, teens, aunties, artists, vendors. Strangers became sisters in seconds.
