If you know us, you know we love a good pastry moment.

Butter. Flaky layers. Something warm in a paper bag you absolutely did not plan on eating in the car but somehow… it happened.

Maui might be known for poke, shave ice, and sunset mai tais, but the bakery situation on this island is pretty frkn good. From shabby hole-in-the-walls to tiny roadside stands and pastry cases that will make you stare for a very long time before ordering.

Here are some of the bakeries on Maui we think about constantly.

Momona

Momona’s pastry case is insane.

Like stand there for five minutes debating insane. Perfect croissants, rotating seasonal pastries, beautiful tarts, all of it.

They clearly take baking seriously here and you can taste it. Everything is flaky in the right way, buttery in the right way, sweet but not too sweet.

You go in thinking you’ll grab one thing and somehow walk out with three.

It happens to the best of us.

T. Komoda Store

Makawao’s legendary bakery and the home of the stick donut.

If you know, you know.

These are not fancy donuts. No frosting mountains, no wild toppings. Just soft, fluffy, lightly sweet donuts that disappear in about 10 seconds.

They’ve been doing this since 1916 and clearly figured it out a long time ago.

Go early. They sell out.

Pau Bakery

Pau Bakery in Lahaina brings something a little different to the Maui bakery scene with their Argentinian-inspired pastries and breads.

Everything here feels a little rustic, a little soulful, and very good. Flaky pastries, rich desserts, and things you don’t see everywhere else on the island.

We love a bakery that surprises us.

Maui Ono Donuts

Okay technically it’s a truck.

But Maui Ono Donuts absolutely deserves to be on this list because their donuts are ridiculous.

Fresh, warm, perfectly glazed donuts that hit every time. And somehow even the gluten free ones are insanely good, which honestly shocked us.

Find the truck. Order more than one.

Papi’s Ohana

Papi’s Ohana made something that honestly should not exist but thank god it does.

A cinnamon roll croissant hybrid.

Yes.

Imagine the buttery layers of a croissant mixed with the gooey cinnamon sugar magic of a cinnamon roll and you’re getting close. It’s messy and incredible and very much worth the hype.

Holy hell.

Four Sisters

Four Sisters is one of those inside places locals love.

The butter rolls. AHHHH.

Soft, golden, lightly sweet rolls that are somehow both simple and perfect. You grab a few thinking they’ll last and suddenly they’re gone.

No regrets.

Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop

Leoda’s is pie heaven.

If you’ve driven the west side you’ve probably already stopped here, but if not, correct that immediately. Their pies are legendary. Banana cream pie, chocolate mac nut pie, fruit pies, all of it.

Ordering just one feels irresponsible.

Homestead Maui at Maui Bees

When you’re Upcountry, go to Maui Bees.

And when you’re there, pop into the little shop at Homestead Maui. The baked goods in there are so good and somehow still a little under the radar.

Fresh pastries, homemade-style treats, all in the middle of beautiful Kula farmland. Grab something and hang out for a minute.

Upcountry vibes are idyllic for a baked good.

Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread

If you’ve ever driven the Road to Hana, you already know this stop.

Aunty Sandy’s banana bread is legendary for a reason. Warm, sweet, perfectly moist banana bread that tastes even better when you’re halfway through a jungle road trip.

It’s simple. It’s nostalgic. It’s perfect.

Stillwell’s

Stillwell’s in Wailuku is an old-school bakeries that’s been doing its thing forever.

Our go-to is the fruit tart. Buttery crust, creamy filling, fresh fruit on top. Classic bakery perfection.

Sometimes the classics really are the best.

Final Thoughts

There’s no shortage of incredible baked goods on Maui.

Old-school donuts, flaky pastries, roadside banana bread, buttery rolls, pies worth driving across the island for.

Just don’t expect to leave any of these places empty-handed.

Or without crumbs in your car.
