Meet Mad Kimono, the bougie sister boutique to our beloved vintage playground, Maui Mood Swing, where the punk, geisha, and wild child coexist in one unapologetically bold space.
Founded by Alison Nagatani, a fourth-generation Japanese-American farmer turned vintage curator, Mad Kimono is an ode to reinvention. After growing up among the crops of California’s Central Valley, Alison followed a pull toward creativity and landed on Maui. Planting new roots, this time in fashion.
From Farmland to Fashion Dreams
What began as a passion for collecting vintage turned into something far greater:
Maui Mood Swing, a treasure-trove antique mall experience with a Hawaiian twist, and
Mad Kimono, a curated women’s boutique inspired by Alison’s own closet – spanning pieces from the 1930s through the 1990s.
Inside Mad Kimono, you can practically feel the stories on every hanger and shelf. Silk kimonos hang beside punk-era jackets. Parisian handbags from the ’70s rest under gorgeous lights. And amid it all, Alison’s sharp eye brings cohesion, transforming eras and influences into something wildly Maui-modern.
