3 Breathwork Teachers to Know on Maui

As a holistic wellness coach of nearly a decade, I practice and teach Breathwork because of how transformational it is.

There are a lot of wellness trends that feel cute, calming, aesthetic. Breathwork is not that. Not the kind I’m talking about.

Holotropic-style breathwork will blow you open.

I remember my teacher in LA, Marlize Joubert, telling us about a student who came rushing into class one day saying, “I got a divorce, I moved out of the country, I have a new job.” She asked, “What changed?”

He said, “Breathwork daily!”

She laughed. “Okay, slow down.”

But also, she knew.

Because nothing reveals your inner psyche and the parts that need to be faced like deep, intentional breathwork. It bypasses the stories, moves stored emotion and brings up the grief, the fear, the brilliance, the clarity. It takes you straight into the subconscious without apology.

Holotropic Breathwork in particular is known for helping people access non-ordinary states of consciousness, release trauma stored in the body, regulate the nervous system, expand creativity, and reconnect with purpose. The breath becomes the medicine. The body becomes the portal.

It is not always soft. But it is honest. And it works.

If you’re feeling called to it on Maui, here are three teachers to know.

1. Dr. Sarah Anne Rothman, ND, L.Ac

Transformational Breathwork at Lumeria

Dr. Sarah Anne Rothman brings clinical intelligence and deep spiritual presence into the same room. As a naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist, her understanding of the body is layered and nuanced. But when she teaches breathwork, it is not sterile. It is powerful.

She hosts a 4 pm Breathwork class at Lumeria that’s open to the public. The experience itself is often described as deeply transformational.

If you want to feel safely held while also being cracked open in the best way, she is someone to follow.

2. Scott Stone

Wim Hof Method, Buteyko, and Executive-Level Nervous System Mastery

Scott Stone’s story is the kind that makes you sit up.

He walked away from a successful career. Ended a relationship. Moved across the country. Helped launch a company building robots that feed individuals living with disabilities. Somewhere in that pivot, he found the Wim Hof Method.

At his first workshop, in the ice bath, he experienced something transcendent. His inner dialogue ceased. The doubting voice disappeared. For the first time in his life, the narrative that limited him went silent.

That moment changed everything.

Now he integrates Wim Hof and Buteyko breathwork into his life and his work as an entrepreneur and transformational coach. He works with people who want to reclaim peace, clarity, freedom and their true nature. Bliss without burning down their lives.

He offers private sessions and group sessions on Sunday mornings at Fuzion Fit in Haiku at 9 am. If you are into biohacking meets consciousness expansion, keep your eyes on him.

3. Breath of Life Wellness

Nick and Paulina are Maui-based wellness practitioners focusing on addiction recovery, breathwork, and IFS (Internal Family Systems) coaching.

Nick and Paulina, the duo behind Breath of Life Wellness, host two-hour breathwork journeys out of their home in Kihei on Friday afternoons and Sunday mornings.

Their work is immersive, intentional, and community-oriented.

This is not surface-level facilitation, it’s truly lived experience. Their sessions are structured journeys designed to move energy, unlock emotion and create space for deep internal shifts.

If you’re curious but want to be guided through a full container, their Breathwork Journey experiences are a beautiful entry point.

Why Breathwork Matters

Breathwork is not about chasing a high. It’s about coming home to yourself.

It is about meeting the grief you have been avoiding. The anger you swallowed. The dreams you put on pause. The parts of you that have been whispering. It’s confrontational in the most important ways.

It regulates the nervous system. It increases oxygen flow. It can lower stress, improve focus, support emotional processing, and even enhance immune function. But beyond the physical, it creates radical self-honesty.

It will show you where you are gripping.

And then it will ask you to let go.

On an island like Maui, where the land itself feels alive, breathwork hits differently. The wind, the ocean, the mountain. It all feels like it’s breathing with you.

If you’re ready to be blown open in the best way, these are three teachers to know.

Breathe in, breathe out.

And see what changes.
